23CORAL on YouTube
My own project for the MetaMedia workshop was to use YouTube comments as a medium. I created ten videos which I hoped would incite bewilderment, mild frustration, and most importantly - comments.
While the number of comments isn’t that huge, the total number of views go over 1000 - just the idea of a thousand people having seen this and having these videos in some part of their memory is exciting for me.
The videos all have titles designed to attract viewers - “Scarlett Johansson strangles reporter”, for instance. There are also images in the middle of these videos that create an enticing thumbnail too.
Viewers are treated to something very different.
MetaMedia
This Friday we had a presentation of our class’s works for our most recent workshop, “MetaMedia”. To break it down for you:
In the process of creating art the choice of medium is itself already an artistic statement. To help students make conscious choices a theoretical framework is offered in which aspects of cultural philosophy, conceptual art and the possibilities of the new media are presented and discussed.
So what did everybody have to offer? Let’s take a wonderful trip into the world of AAAARTSCIIIIIEEEENCEEEEE
How Humerus of You
Starting the long road through anatomy, the shame of me taking this long to get round to it finally is burning my cherubic cheeks

AppleInsider and the iPhone
If you like the iPhone and its app store, and you like me as well, consider the two blended together: I now write for AppleInsider’s iPhone Blog, so please check it out!
Looking for Pearls
Keepin’ it very coral here.
My first collaborative effort for a long time, pencilled by myself and coloured by my good friend An. Unfortunately An is young and naive and so saved over a hi-res copy so this will never be a print, but I’m sure there’ll be more efforts like this in the future.
Sleepy Coral
Patent Hands
Why in patent filings, particularly with Apple, do the hands look so horrific? It’s not as if they’re meant to be simplified doodles either, look at these bastards:
Futurism and Fashion
Went to the Gemeentemuseum today to see “Real men: fashion for real man” (sic).
Let’s get this out of the way: If you can’t wear it to the pub without being scoffed at, there’s no function in it for society at large.
My favourite section was that of the futurists of course (photos attached). Zippers, Velcro, gaudy colours - how futuristic! Surely a futurist has figured out that real, flexible tech is the future of fashion - live graphics and instant colour/patterning change. This kind of technology is being deployed and actively developed by Philips (click here to see some videos of it). The best example of technology and clothing being synthesised that I can think of are those ski jackets with the iPod controls built in.
Looks like we have a long way to go.
Rearrangement of website, fifth time now
Just finished restructuring the website. The journal is no longer the crux of the site, and the artwork has now moved to it’s own section and sports a much more visual layout that is a wee bit more engaging than the post by post blog I had going on. There is also a new goodies section with images for your desktop and iPhone. I’ll be adding bits here and there and sorting out the kinks.
Anyway I hope it makes things more attractive for you. Til later!
